  1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions, apply to this section.

1.2    SUMMARY

  1. This Section includes all sheet material applied with sealed joints to form a Vapor Barrier.

1.3    PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Provide vapor barriers with the following properties based on testing manufacture's standard products, according to test methods indicated, applied to substrates simulating Project conditions using same materials and application methods to be used for Project

    1. Water-vapor transmission (flat condition): 0.000 grams/hr/sq meter, per ASTM E-96 Procedure B.

    2. Water-vapor transmission (flex test): 0.0134 grams/100 sq in, per petri dish method, Standard test #2.

    3. Tensile strength: 25,000 lbs/sq in per ASTM D882-64T.

    4. Bursting strength: 96.6 lbs/sq in, per ASTM D 77463T.

    5. Tear strength: 1,800 lbs/sq in, per ASTM D 1004-66.

    6. Melting point: 480 degrees F, per Fisher-Johns test.

    7. Fire hazard classification:

      1. Flame spread: 5 per ASTM E-84 and NFDA 255

      2. Fuel contributed: 0 per ASTM E-84 and NFDA 255

      3. Smoke developed: 5 per ASTM E-84 and NFDA 255

1.4    SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: Include manufacture's specifications, surface preparation and application instructions, recommendations for sheet vapor barriers for each surface to be treated, and protection and cleaning instructions. Include data substantiating that manufacturer recommends materials for applications indicated and comply with requirements.

  2. Manufacturer Certificates: Signed by sheet vapor barrier manufacturer certifying that the sheet vapor barrier complies with requirements specified in the "Performance Requirements" Article. Upon request, submit evidence of meeting requirements.

  3. Applicator Certificates: Signed by manufacturer certifying that the applicator complies with requirements.

1.5    QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer Qualifications: Engage a firm experienced in manufacturing sheet vapor barrier similar to that indicated for this Project and with a record of successful in-service performance.

  2. Single Source Limitations for Sheet Vapor Barrier: Obtain sheet vapor barrier through one source from a single manufacturer. Provide secondary materials only as recommended by the manufacturer of primary materials.

  3. Applicator Qualifications: Engage an experienced applicator who employs only persons approved by sheet vapor barrier manufacturer for application of manufacturer's products.

  4. Pre-installation Conference: Before installing sheet vapor barrier, conduct conference at Project site to comply with requirements "Project Meetings." Notify participants at least 5 working days before conference.

    1. Meet with Owner, Architect/Engineer, Vapor Barrier installer, Electrical & Plumbing contractors, Heating and Air Conditioning contractors, and all installers whose work interfaces with or affects sheet vapor barrier, including installers of roof systems and roof mounted equipment.

    2. Review methods and procedures related to sheet vapor barrier installation, including Manufacturer's written instructions.

    3. Examine conditions and finishes for compliance with requirements.

    4. Review penetrations and conditions of other construction that will affect sheet vapor barrier (Electrical and Plumbing).

    5. Review sheet vapor barrier observation and repair procedures after sheet vapor barrier installation. (Any contractor penetrating the vapor barrier after the material is installed has to make sure that the penetrations are sealed.)

    6. Document proceedings, including corrective measures or actions required, and furnish copy of record to each participant.

1.6    PROJECT CONDITIONS

  1. Substrate Conditions: Proceed with application of sheet vapor barrier only after openings and penetrations have been completed and after the substrate has been examined by installer. Notify the architect in writing of any unsatisfactory conditions. Do not proceed until conditions have been corrected.

1.7    DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Deliver sheet vapor barrier materials to project site in original containers with seals unbroken and labeled with manufacturer's name, product brand and type, date of manufacture, and directions for storing.

  2. Store miscellaneous materials in their original undamaged containers in a clean, dry, protected location and within the temperature range required by sheet vapor barrier manufacturer. Protect stored material from direct sunlight.

  3. Protect sheet vapor barrier materials from physical damage and from deterioration by sunlight, moisture, soiling, and other sources. Store in a dry location. Comply with sheet vapor barrier manufacturer's written instructions for handling, storing and protecting during installation.

1.7    WARRANTY

  1. Special Warranty: Submit a written warranty, executed by the applicator and sheet vapor barrier manufacturer, covering materials (manufacturer) and labor (applicator), agreeing to repair or replace material that fails to provide a barrier to vapor within the specified warranty period. Note the manufacturer of the vapor barrier can not be held responsible for material that is not installed correctly or for material that has been damaged by other contractors.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

  1. Available Products: Subject to compliance with requirement, products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:
